Select from carefully selected beach holidays filled with excursions throughout the country. Experience the different beaches of Sri Lanka. All our tours touch the beach at one point before departure. We have included at least one day at the beach into our selected itineraries. If you wish to enjoy just the beach we have selected beach only tour packages with lots of activities around.

The Best Tourist Beaches

The island’s 1,340 km of beaches attracts tourists from around the world and is famous for its sandy beaches. The South Coast has pockets of wide beaches Nov - April and lagoons for safe all year round swimming but generally the South coast suffers with the seasons and many beaches narrow off April - October. However, it does boast the best snorkelling reefs in Hikkaduwa and Unawatuna.

Bentota beach (called as Ben-tot) is well organized beach destination and is one of our favorites. It had lot of water sports activities including wakeboarding and windsurfing. Most of our tour packages have a stop over here or you could request to add this option. ¬The most beautiful, wide and sandy beaches can be found in Bentota (South West) a thriving tourist resort with many hotels from star class to economical. There are many private boutique hotels like Taru Villa, River House and Club Villa that enjoy pools and awesome beaches.

Hikkadua Beach is famous for its coral reefs and has to be said that Hikkadua's surf break is one of the best in the country. Its on the way from Galle to Colombo and included as a stopover on some our tour packages. Most of our packages includes the glass bottom boat rides and activities around.

Unawatuna which was listed as world’s best beach once has its Goa style atmosphere of cafes & bars, safe for families, diving, snorkeling or hanging out. Enjoy the beach filled with lots of fun, music and entertainment. One of the most visited beached in Sri Lanka. Unawatuna and its surrounding beaches are very narrow, but there are excellent snorkelling reefs. There are a number of secluded and quiet bays along the south coast which kiss the gardens of private villas like Southpoint, Apa Villa, The Beach Hut and If Villa. The area has well-established family beach resorts though slightly more commercial.

Weligama, is home to the famous stilt fishermen encapsulates is a good place to see this unique way of fishing and for a photo shoot. One of the best beaches is no doubt Mirissa a peaceful, white bay with a wide stretch of sand. Its an ideal spot for Whale watching. Mirissa is a sleepy southern town which boasts a fabulous beach and very few tourists. Mostly Guesthouses and worldwide travelers discover this corner but we have discovered a few magnificent villas which are on the cliff overlooking Mirissa beach (just 20 mins away). Cinnamon Mount and Point Sud are in the premier league of villas and are ideal for large groups/ familiesDown South beach continues passed Matara through to spectacular beaches like Tangalla Beach, Dickwella Beach or Senimodera Beach, miles of white sand, palm trees and clearest water. These are, we would say, the best beaches on the south.

Tangalle on the South corner which is less commercial but the home to many private and exclusive villas like Mahawella, the last house and the Claughton House.Senimodera, directly accessible from two of the most luxurious private villas in the country The Beach House and The Last House.

The East Coast has some beautiful beaches and an April-September season, but the tourist areas of Trincomalee and Aragum Bay are still slightly underdeveloped. If you wish to enjoy soaring hot temperatures, world-class surfing, great diving and simple living, then the East Coast is very up-and-coming. East coast Arugam Bay is best for those who are looking for sea surfing beach adventure but who don't seek entertainment (Arugam Bay is ideal from April to July). You could add this to your tour plan.

Kalapitya Beach near Puttlam lagoon, the furthest West-coast spot for dolphin & whale watch, sail, snorkel and kite surf in desert-island solitude.  Negombo can be overcrowded with fishermen and touts, and the seas can be rough.
